Torture marks found on encounter victims

FAISALABAD, Feb 3: The two robbery suspects of Sidhupura, in Ghulam Muhammadabad police precincts, killed on Jan 9 in a police encounter were tortured, according to postmortem reports.

Police say the robbery suspects – Shaukat and Amin – were killed when they were fleeing after striking a house in Sidhuppura with a 17-member gang.

The report says the hands of Shaukat were tide with rope.

The four-member medical board states in the postmortem report that Shaukat had torture marks on his shoulder, an arm, chest, buttocks and thighs.

Similarly, Amin was also tortured on various parts.

The report says Ashiq died of two bullet wounds and Amin received one fatal bullet wound.

The board states that injuries inflicted on the deceased were caused by some blunt weapon, ante-mortem and their duration is 36 to 48 hours.Fearing the media backlash, the police received postmortem reports on Feb 2, though reports had been prepared on Jan 11.

Sources said Crime Investigation Agency officials subjected two suspects to severe torture before killing them through Jaranwala Sadar police. Ashiq was captured by Ghulam Muhammadabad police inspector Nasir Chattha and the encounter took place in Chak 109-GB, precincts of Jaranwala Sadar police.

Both accused were killed by the police just few hours after the robbery.

Earlier, Jhang Bazaar police claimed to have killed a man identified as Zakariya of Nawabanwala in an encounter on Dec 5.

However, during postmortem report it had been confirmed that the guy was not in a position to have trade fire with the police as his skull had been fractured on three different parts.
