PESHAWAR, Jan 31: The Jamaat-i-Islami has held coalition partners in Sindh government responsible for target killings in Karachi and demanded of the chief justice to form a judicial commission to probe all such incidents.Addressing a press conference here on Monday, JI naib amir Sirajul Haq said that government failed to arrest the people involved in target killings in Karachi.

Flanked by former MNA Shabir Ahmed Khan and Advocate Israrullah, he said that Pakistan People's Party, Muttahida Qaumi Movement and Awami National Party were equally responsible for bloodshed in Karachi.

“Our party leaders met the affected families, traders, lawyers and other citizens of Karachi and all of them were holding ruling parties responsible for the killings and prevailing situation in the city,” he claimed.

Mr Siraj said that more than 2,200 people had been targeted during the recent two years while over 15,000 had had been killed during the past 15 years in Karachi. About 60 per cent of the victims belonged to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, he added.

“Sindh Interior Minister Zulfiqar Mirza has admitted on the floor of assembly that he knows the terrorists involved in Karachi target killings but it is impossible to arrest them,” he said.

The JI leader alleged that thousands of MQM activists had been recruited in police to protect criminals, mint money and avoid taking action against anti-state and anti-social elements.

“MQM is creating problems for Pakhtuns in Karachi to keep them away from government jobs, deny them National Identity Card and close their businesses. MQM is creating hurdles for Pakhtuns at every stage,” he alleged.

Mr Siraj said that ethnic groups in Karachi had made hostage politics, democracy, elections and administration at gunpoint.

The ANP, he said, had also adopted the tactics of MQM by giving guns to its workers instead of raising voices for the rights of Pakhtuns.
