Client wins case against fashion designer

LAHORE, Jan 27: The District Consumer Court on Thursday ordered a fashion designer to pay Rs13,200 to a customer seeking damages of Rs57,700.

Complainant Shabnam Chaudhry submitted to the court that she bought a readymade dress from Naila, a fashion designer in DHA, Lahore, for Rs7,700 on July 1, 2010, for a function. She said the suit caused her skin allergy and a lot of embarrassment at the function. She said the dress caused her skin allergy because it was a used one. She said she asked the designer to return her money or give her a new dress, but she turned down both options.

She prayed to the court to order the defendant to compensate her with Rs57,700 -- Rs7,700 for the dress and Rs50,000 for the mental torture she suffered and the amount she spent on legal action against the designer.

APPLIANCE DEALER: The court ordered a dealer of home appliances to pay Rs9,300 to a complainant seeking Rs29,300 compensation for a defective washing machine spinner (dryer).

Complainant Badar Munir said he bought a spinner for Rs4,300 from Shahid, a home appliances dealer, on Jan 9, 2008. He said the machine stopped working many times and he asked the defendant to replace it or reimburse his money, but he refused.

He prayed to the court to tell the defendant to return him the cost of the machine (Rs4,300) and Rs25,000 as damages.

NOTICE: The consumer court on Thursday issued notices to a private engineering company for Feb 18 on a complaint seeking compensation of Rs302,000.

Complainant Najibullah Khan stated he bought a diesel generator of 24KV from Sunshine Engineering Company on March 26, 2010. The generator stopped working many times, but the company failed to detect the fault.

He said he asked the company to replace it or reimburse his money, but the company refused.
