Petrol pump owner killed by robbers

HYDERABAD, Jan 26: Funeral prayer of a man killed during robbery was held on bypass road on the National Highway on Wednesday, leading to traffic blockade for three hours. Reportedly, Rasool Kareem and his nephew Ahmed Deen were going to deposit Rs2.4 million in a bank situated at Hala Naka when intercepted by four gunmen riding on two motorcycles.

Robbers not only snatched the money but also opened fire injuring both the man and his nephew. Rasool Kareem and his nephew retaliated fire but the four managed to ride away. The incident took place in Hatri area.

However, Rasool Kareem owner of Mera Sarhad petrol pump died on the way to hospital.

Ahmed Deen told police and journalists that one of robbers also received bullet injuries but his accomplices took away the injured man.

Protesters were enraged over lack of security and increasing incidents of crime and raised slogans against police and pelted the passing vehicles with stones.

Commuters faced hardships as traffic coming from, and going to upcountry was stuck up on the National Highway and the bypass resulting in a long queue.

DPO Hyderabad Munir Sheikh reached the troubled spot and persuaded protesters to end the siege on promise that police would make all efforts for the arrest of culprits.

No case was lodged till the filing of this report.
