Muttahida worker, friend shot dead

KARACHI, Jan 21: An activist of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement and his friend were gunned down in an armed attack within the remit of the Risala police station in the early hours of Friday, police said.

They said that 38-year-old Mohammad Saeed and 45-year-old Haji Fareed were sitting in Chambba Gali where four men, all wearing helmets, on two motorcycles emerged and sprayed them with bullets.

The police said that both of them sustained multiple bullet wounds and died on their way to the Civil Hospital Karachi.

Hospital sources said that Saeed sustained two bullet wounds in the head while Fareed suffered 12 bullet wounds.

A 9mm pistol was used in the attack, the police said, adding that a bullet also hit a passer-by, identified as Zaheer, in the leg.

They said that Saeed was an activist of the MQM’s Ranchhore Line sector while Haji Fareed was the president of the Whitewash Association.

The funeral prayer of the two victims was offered on main M. A. Jinnah Road near Denso Hall after the Friday prayers.

Tension gripped the downtown localities where commercial activities remained suspended even after the Friday prayers.

The coordination committee of the MQM condemned the killing of the party worker and a supporter.

Earlier on Sunday, two MQM activists Mohammad Kashif and Mohammad Jaffar were killed near the civil hospital within the remit of the Risala police station.
