Saudi Arabia sends relief goods to flood-hit areas

ISLAMABAD, Jan 17: Saudi Ambassador Abdul Aziz Ibrahim Al-Ghadeer on Monday dispatched 550 truckloads of winter relief goods worth Rs143 million for the flood victims.Embassy officials present at the ceremony said that invitations were sent to six federal ministers, but none of them had turned up at the ceremony.

The convoy of trucks dispatched on Monday is part of Saudi campaign that started in Pakistan for assisting flood-stricken people waiting for food and other essential items.

The relief aid is being provided to flood-affected people through “King Abdullah’s Relief Campaign for Pakistani People (KARCPP)”, the organization established for the purpose of relief and rehabilitation of flood-affected people.

The dispatch was the sixth convoy of trucks containing 150,000 quilts, 180 tons of dates and milk for supply to some 36 flood affected areas in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan, Sindh, Punjab, Gilgit-Baltistan, Kashmir and the tribal belt.

About 70,000 families would get the relief items to be distributed equally among the victims on humanitarian grounds with.

So far, King Abdullah Relief Organization has dispatched thousands of trucks to flood-affected areas to rehabilitate the people confronting challenges of post-flood situation.
