Strike in Golarchi after killing

BADIN, Jan 13: A complete strike was observed on Thursday in Golarchi town against the murder of a political activist, Iftikhar Arain.

All shops and trade centres remained closed.

On Wednesday, three masked men riding on a motorcycle opened fire at Iftikhar Arain, 24, and Mohammed Zubair, killing Arain.

A sense of insecurity prevailed in Golarchi due to increasing incidents. The town was earlier known for low crime rate, but for the last one month, incidents of murder have increased.

After this incident, people remained indoors because this was the second incident of murder within a month. Earlier, Majid Memon, an activist of JSMM, had been shot dead over hoisting the flag on the office of a growers' organisation.

Heavy police contingent and law enforcement agencies were patrolling in the town.

Haji Irshad Arain, father of the victim, registered an FIR against five persons, including Abdul Ghafoor Memon (taluka PPP president of Golarchi), Nabi Bux Samejo, Irshad Memon, Mansoor Notkani and Abdul Qadir Memon, (the four belonging to nationalist parties).

Sources said that police had arrested more than 16 suspects, police officials deny arrests.
