Sub-inspector loses life in encounter with robbers

SUKKUR, Jan 11: A sub-inspector of police and a bandit died and a constable received injuries in an encounter in Mirpur Mathelo on Tuesday.

Four bandits barged into the house of a cloth trader Chetan and attempted to loot cash, gold ornaments and other valuables. The move was resisted by the family members who immediately informed the police.

The bandits fled from the scene and a police party, led by Sub-Inspector Abdul Sattar Bhatti, chased them. Sensing danger, bandits opened fire which was returned by the police and an encounter ensued which continued for half an hour.

As a result, sub-inspector Bhatti and a bandit, later identified as Riaz Pitafi, were killed and constable Shaban Korai received injuries.

The funeral prayers for the deceased police official were offered at his native village Sui in Daharki which was attended by DIG Sukkur Zafar Abbas Bokhari, besides a large number of police officials, relatives of the deceased, and area people.

He announced a cash award of Rs2 million for bereaved family, a job to his heirs as well as payment of monthly salary to the family members of the daring official. He also promoted the injured constable Shaban Korai to the rank of head constable.
