ISLAMABAD, Jan 10: A state-of-the-art plant capable of producing over 30,000 boxes of cereal per day has started production in Faisalabad.

The plant will export breakfast cereals processed using Pakistani maize.

According to a press release issued here, the plant built by Agroventures (Pvt) Ltd was inaugurated by a prominent Swiss industrialist Baron Lorne Thyssen-Bornemisza in Faisalabad on Monday.

Breakfast cereals are an important part of the diet in many countries and the developed countries export in excess of $5 billion of corn flakes and other cereals.

Pakistan has excellent quality maize, which is the primary raw material in breakfast cereals, but is currently not exported.

On the occasion, Baron Lorne Thyssen-Bornemisza said that Pakistan has huge potential in becoming a major global player in value-added agribusiness processing.

He said that the federal and Punjab governments were strongly supporting agribusiness investment in Pakistan, and international investors should take advantage of this opportunity.

He announced a further $30 million investment in Agroventures for value-added grain processing in Punjab.—APP
