Robbers kill boy, injure constables

FAISALABAD, Dec 28: A boy was killed and two police constables sustained injuries when robbers opened fire on them in two incidents on Tuesday.

Reports said Asif of Chak 143-RB was his way to Jhumrah on a motorcycle when three robbers signalled him to stop. The accused opened fire on him when he accelerated his two-wheeler. He succumbed to his injuries on way to hospital.

However, police registered a murder case on the complaint of Javed Iqbal, brother of the deceased, citing that the incident had nothing to do with robbery.

In another incident, robbers opened fire on two constables -- Ahmed and Arshad -- of Sargodha Road police station on resistance, injuring them seriously.

Madina Town police officer Sadiq Dogar said four constables riding two motorcycles stopped four armed people at Noorpur in Sargodha Road police precincts.

The constables overpowered two of them and others scuffled with police and opened fire. As a result two constables sustained injuries. The accused managed their escape.

On Monday, scores of people stopped a Rawalpindi-bound train for about one-and-a-half hour near Gatti in protest against the incidence of robberies.

They had chanted slogans against police and said robbers were looting people but police could not arrest them.
