ANP-JSQM clash leaves one dead

KARACHI, Dec 28: A man was killed and two others wounded in an armed clash between two political groups within the remit of the Sachal police station, police said.

They said that the man who got killed was not affiliated with any of the parties and he was a wage earner.

The police said that a dispute between the Awami National Party (ANP) and the Jeay Sindh Qaumi Mahaz (JSQM) broke out late Monday night when some ANP activists were hoisting their party flags in the area said to a JSQM stronghold.

SSP Naeem Shaikh of Gulshan Town said JSQM activists removed the ANP flags on Tuesday morning. However, both parties agreed to hold a meeting to resolve the matter on Wednesday.

He said that some activists reportedly belonging to the ANP opened fire at some workers of the JSQM. This led to an armed clash between the two sides in which a man, identified as Abdul Wahid, was killed at a cement depot.

A man working at a drycleaner shop and a pedestrian were also wounded.

Man deprived of cash

Armed men snatched cash from a man from outside a bank branch within the remit of the Shah Faisal police station on Tuesday.

SSP Javed Akbar Riaz said that the armed men intercepted Wakeel Ahmed who was going to deposit cash in the Shah Faisal Colony branch of Bank Al Habib.

The police said that the armed men took away Rs1.4 million from the victim at gunpoint.
