KARACHI, Dec 18: A district and sessions court on Saturday ordered the registration of a criminal case against five policemen for allegedly detaining and robbing two citizens.

District and Sessions Judge (Malir) Syed Kusar Ali Bukhari directed the SHO of the Malir City police station to record the statement of a lawyer under Section 154 of the criminal procedure code and register an FIR accordingly against Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ibrahim and four other policemen of the Memon Goth police station.

The applicant, Advocate Mohammad Arshad, moved the application under Section 22-A of the criminal procedure code in court stating that on the morning of Dec 15 he along with his client Bashir was standing at a bus stop within the remit of the Malir City police station when five policemen of the Memon Goth police station, including ASI Ibrahim, took them into custody.

The applicant said that the police subjected them to torture and snatched cash and other valuables from him.

He said that the police released him near a sewage drain in the Memon Goth area and took his client to the police station.

He stated that he approached the police station concerned to lodge an FIR against the responsible policemen, but the police did not entertain his plea.

He prayed to the court to direct the SHO concerned to record his statement and register a case.

Suspected militant remandedA judicial magistrate on Saturday remanded an alleged militant in police custody till Dec 21 in cases pertaining to possession of illicit weapons and explosives.

The Special Investigation Unit of the police claimed to have arrested Imamuddin alias Mawia in the Ayub Goth area on Dec 15 and stated that the suspect was associated with the banned Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and allegedly planning to target the Ashura procession.

The police also stated that they had recovered explosives and illicit weapons from his possession.

The suspect was produced before Judicial Magistrate (Malir) Aslam Sheikh, who handed him over to police on three-day remand.

The suspect was booked under Section 13-D of the Pakistan Arms Ordinance, 1965 and Section 4/5 of the Explosive Substance Act.
