Five miners killed in Orakzai blast

KALAYA, Dec 14: Five miners were killed and six others wounded in a coal mine blast in Lower Orakzai tribal region on Tuesday.

The labourers were busy in their routine excavation work when the explosion took place in Doli area.

The rescue team reached the spot and started rescue work. Five bodies and six injured persons were recovered from the mine after hectic efforts. The injured were rushed to the nearby Kareez Hospital.

The deceased were identified as Khan Saeed, Omar Mohammad, Gul Rehan, Saeed Ghani and Bakht Zeb. All the victims are hailing from Shangla district.

The dead bodies were dispatched to their hometowns.

Assistant director of rescue team, Fazal Rabi, and operation in charge Roshan Khan said that the mine holder, Jan Ali, was issued warning a day earlier to stop work at the mine but he did not comply.
