Police shoot attacker: Four shot dead by rivals

JHANG, Nov 30: Four people died and two injured when unidentified gunmen opened fire on them near Rasikabad bus stop on Jhang-Shorkot road on Tuesday, while in an ongoing shootout between the assailants and police at least one outlaw has been killed.

According to police sources, the deceased originally belonged to Chak 94-RB, Khurianwala, Faisalabad, and were forced to migrated to Adda Rasikabad in the vicinity of Merak Sial, Shorkot tehsil, ten years ago, because of an old enmity in their native area.

The sources said they were allegedly involved in the murder of a member of the family of the assailants. Both parties belonged to the same clan of Jats.

On Tuesday, the victims were sitting outside their house when four assailants riding two motorcycles arrived there at 11.30am and opened fire on them with automatic weapons. As a result, Ghulam Murtaza, Waqar, Sarfraz and Rafiq were killed on the spot and two others sustained injuries.

On being informed of the incident, a party of Shortkot city police led by DSP Asghar started chasing the assailants and overtook them near Chak No 410, Gulabwala, in the precincts of Chutiana police station, Toba Tek Singh district.

In the ensuing crossfire between the outlaws and police one of the assailants was reportedly killed and another arrested. The shootout was going on till the filing of this report.
