Renaming of Talti school criticised
DADU, Nov 7: Educationalists and activists of Talti have criticised renaming of the boys' high school of Talti after the father of an additional secretary of the Sindh education department.
Essa Daudpoto, son of Shamsul Ulema Allama Omer bin Mohammad Daudpoto, has urged the Sindh government not to change the school's name.
He appealed to President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Syed Yousuf Raza Gilani to ask the Sindh chief minister to ensure that the school retained its original name.
Historian Aziz Ahmed Ranjhani said the school was set up in 1864-65 by the area's notable Abdul Karim Daudpoto, an uncle of Dr Omer bin Mohammad Daudpoto.
He said that it was upgraded as a middle school in 1965 and high school in 1988.
Headmaster of the school, Inyatullah Daudpoto, declined to comment and said he being a government employee would not comment on the issue.
