PESHAWAR, Aug 27: A special court (control of narcotics) has convicted two persons for drug pushing and sentenced them to life imprisonment with fine of Rs200,000.

The court presided over by Syed Rafique Hussain Shah observed that the prosecution had proved its case against the two accused persons, Saifur Rehman and Sajjad Ali, and the evidence on record connected them with the commission of the offence.

The court, however, acquitted the third accused, Chaman Gul, due to lack of proper evidence against him.

The accused were arrested by the Anti Narcotics Force on charges of narcotics smuggling. The ANF had claimed that they had prior tip about smuggling of contraband through a bus.

The prosecution alleged that a raiding team of ANF stopped the said bus and recovered 64kg charas and 21kg opium from secret cavities of the bus and arrested the two accused persons, Saifur Rehman and Sajjad Gul. Later on, the third accused, Chaman Gul, was also arrested on charges that he was a mechanic who had made cavities in the bus.

The counsel for the ANF contended that the accused persons were caught red-handed while smuggling contraband. He added that the two prime suspects were present in the bus whereas they had named the third accused as their accomplice in the case.
