MIANWALI, Aug 27: Veteran politicians, Gul Hameed Khan Rokhri and Dr Sher Afgan, broke their allegiance formed in the name of Khidmat-i-Ittehad four years ago.

Reports said Gul Hameed Khan and Dr Afgan had persistently contested election from the Pakistan People’s Party platform but never won. Then they formed an alliance and vowed not to part ways in good stead.

Rokhri, who is currently PML-QA district president, was the first to part with the union at a press conference on Monday night. Early Tuesday, Dr Sher Afgan at a press conference vowed to stick to his promise he had made four years ago.

In the local body election, Rokhri’s son Humair Hayaat Rokhri was elected district Nazim and Dr Afgan’s son Amjad Khan Naib Nazim.

Soon after the birth of the PML(QA), difference between the two politicians cropped up as Dr Afgan was adamant to oppose the military regime while Rokhri was the ‘blue-eyed’ of the government because of his relations with Chaudhry brothers of the PML(QA).

Thereafter, their sons also nurtured grudges so much so that their difference were noticed in almost every session of the district council. To keep their relations intact, Dr Afgan forced his son to resign from the office but the Punjab governor did not accept his resignation.

Recently, they decided that Rokhri would contest election from NA-72 and PP-44.

However, Dr Sher Afgan of People’s Party Parliamentarian filed his nomination papers for NA-72 and his son Berum Khan’s for PP-45.

Rokhri was irritated at this move and declared himself the candidate of all the three constituencies.

Later, Dr Afgan said he was ready to withdraw the application of his son Berum Khan filed for PP-45, if Rokhri will contest for PP-45 after withdrawing his application from NA-72 or nominate his nephew Amir Hayaat Khan.
