KARACHI, Aug 24: A card of seven races has been drawn for the Karachi Summer meeting which will be held Sunday at the local turf.

The first race will begin at 1.30 pm.

The day’s card looks quite contesting provided the chance horses are supported by their connections. Much of the charm is taken away when people sitting in the glass house indulge in malpractices.

It is a routine at the Karachi Race Club that the KRC officials ask the riders at the starting gate whether their charge is on job or not. It is done just to pass on the information to the so-called gentlemen sitting in the glass house who lay their bet with the bookmakers.

This was in practice for a long time but with the facility of the mobile phones, the corruption and manipulation has gained new heights.

Neither people sitting in the glass house suffer nor the bookmakers who pool the money for conducting day to day races. If the bookmakers feel that they are losing, they simply ask the people in the glass house to change the riders with a chance of upsetting the well backed horses and they are duly obliged.

The stewards who are han in glove with the bookmakers dare not refuse their demand as the bookmakers threaten to close their shop.

The result is that neither the bookmakers are the losers nor the people in the glass house. The only sufferers are the patrons of the turf who are taken for a ride almost every day by the Race Club mafia.

The Government agencies, have failed to take any notice of the misdeeds of the people running the affairs of the Karachi Race Club. It is time that some positive step is taken to cleans the dirty element from the club affairs.

Now reverting to the day’s card, in the opener Eye Catcher, Black Gift and Lucky Love draw the most attention.

None of them have any forward run therefore, the support in the batting ring would be the best guiding factor. On handicap Lucky Love should have edge over Eye Catcher who is running in a very poor company.

Raysham, Noor-un-Nisa, Genuine Risk and Sone Pari are horses with some forward run. Genuine Risk’s last run behind Winning Streak was too good. On that run I would like her to have the better of Raysham.

Noo-run-Nisa has the handicap chance as she has been given an eight pound allowance after running out of frame just once.

In the third race, Bach Fly, Simple Prayer, Winning Streak are the pick. Simple Prayer in her last four starts has figured on the board.

A win now is overdue for her. She will have to fight out the issue with Winning Streak who is the next best.

Bach Fly can upset my calculations if the connections engage an efficient rider with full allowance.

Cute Lady, Lucky One, Guriya Phool and Hawaitha draw the attention most in the fourth race. Last week Lucky One finished second behind Welcome Shahtab when M. Yousuf replaced Tariq Mahmood at the last minute. On that run she should simply hack the present lot.

In the fifth race, Lippzenzer is cut above class and had a good track work out on return from Lahore.

I would, however, like Aziz Love to run true to his form to beat Lippzenzer who may need this run to gain full fitness.

Love U Lady can provide the element of surprise as she has been running in the company of Hoor-e-Mehran and Raqeeb-e-Azam in the morning track work who recorded most impressive maiden wins just recently.

If she is backed by the stable it will simply trot home in a canter.

Lucky Three is a class act in the sixth race and is my day’s best. Deniro and Donatello should fight for lower berths.

In the concluding event of the day, Trillionairess, The Cleopatra, Navahoo Princess and Sapno Ki Rani are the form horses.

The way Trillionairess was handled by her rider which was not an all out effort should have no difficulty in beating Navahoo Princess who is bound to produce an improved run.

Any slip by Ghulam Shabbar in the saddle can cost him the race. I will, however like Trillionairess to produce her best effort to walk away with top honours.
