Maldives Badminton: Pakistan players dominate

LAHORE While Pakistan's top seed Wajid Ali caused an upset to qualify for the singles' quarter-finals, the pair of Rizwan Azam and Kashif Sulehri entered the semi-final of the Maldives International Badminton Tournament.

According to a message received here, Wajid outplayed Austrias Obernosterer David after a tough fight with 28-26, 18-21 and 22-20 as the score.

Rizwan and Kashif beat the top seed Shahhosseini Ali-Kheradmandi and Mohammad Reza of Iran in a hard-fought three set match with the score of 21-18, 17-21 and 21-18 to enter the last four. They will now meet Gadi Antonino and Asuncion Kennevic of Philippines in the semi-finals.

Pakistan Badminton Federation (PBF) Secretary Aamir Hayat Khan Rokhari urged the government of Pakistan to include the sport in the upcoming Commonwealth and the Asian Games.
