Indian firing kills old man in AJK

MUZAFFARABAD, May 1 Indian troops resorted to firing from across the Line of Control on Saturday, killing an elderly man in Azad Jammu and Kashmir in an unprovoked ceasefire violation, an official said.

“A 70-year-old villager, Mohammad Azam, was killed in Battal village of Hajira sector after the Indian troops opened fire with small and medium arms without any provocation,” a police official told Dawn.

The Hajira sector lies along the unmarked dividing line in AJK's Poonch district.

“They (Indian troops) started firing at 610pm. The firing continued intermittently till evening,” the official said.
