6 die as jeep plunges into Neelum river

MUZAFFARABAD, Aug 18: At least six people, including a woman, were killed and three others were injured when a jeep they were travelling in, plunged into a river in Neelum valley on Saturday, police said here on Sunday.

The ill-fated vehicle (AJKC-9244) was going to Halmat from Kel, in the upper belt of the valley in northeast of Muzaffarabad, with eight people, including the driver, when it met with the fatal accident.

The vehicle dived into the River Neelum that flows along the narrow road near Saonar village and as a result of the fall six people drowned. Five of them were identified as driver Sabir Lone, Ramazan, Chhota Ramazan, Qasim and Sajida, wife of Ramazan. So far only the woman’s body could be recovered from the river, an official said. Farooq, Shams Deen and Hafeezullah were recovered alive but with serious wounds. They were taken to a military hospital in the area, he added.
