KARACHI It seems that the Fashion Pakistan Week-2 (FPW-2) that concluded on Friday was saving the best for the last. On the concluding day of the event, six out of 10 designer collections shown on the ramp stood out with three making a definite statement.

Lahore-based designer Kamair Rokni introduced a new diffusion line under the label of 'Tia'. The collection he showed was titled 'Route'. Kamair Rokni showed small waisted coats, slim-cut pants, blue checkered detailing among other attributes. The collection was a clean cut, inspired by the East India Company and Dutch colonialism and predominantly focused on fabrics such as chiffon, cotton, denim, linen and stretch fabric.

After showing a collection that had mehndi designed on it in the last Fashion Pakistan Week in November 2009, Syed Rizwanullah introduced his autumn/winter 2010 collection titled 'Depression Chic'. A predominantly black and white collection, the fabric that Rizwanullah created from both checkered and motif inspired rilli prints. The opening model wore a black and white checkered shuttlecock burqa that the model took off before walking the ramp. He also had well-constructed, elevated shoulders on his garment, a minaret embroidered on the back of one of his outfits etc. In one segment, a black, burqa-clad woman walked to the end of the ramp and later introduced herself as Feeha Jamshed. What was interesting about her outfit was that when she lifted the burqa and threw it over her shoulder, it automatically became a cape.

Umar Sayeed introduced a collection dedicated to Sadequain. He was the final designer who closed the entire evening. The Sadequain collection had customised music with the sound of ringing bells and crows interspersed with music and Naad-e-Ali Zaidi's voice over reciting the poetry of Ghalib. Omar showed bubble dresses, draped dresses and capes with Sadequain paintings on some of the outfits. Sadequain's work was embroidered and screen printed on several outfits.

The models walked with small nests on their shoes with eggs in them. At the end of the show the lights dimmed and when they came back, Vaneeza Ahmed stood on the other end of the ramp and walked forward to reveal a massive cape the trailed on the ramp which had most of Sadequain's work created on it. Omar Sayeed then walked on the ramp to receive a standing ovation from the audience.

The fashion week also gave awards to the models. The 'Best Male Model' went to Noor Hasan and the 'Best Female Model' to Mehreen Syed.

Other designers at the final day of the fashion week included Fayezah Samee, Zarmina, Fayez Agariah and Ahmad Bilal.
