KARACHI, April 1 The Board of Intermediate Education Karachi (BIEK) on Thursday suspended the affiliation of 16 higher secondary schools and colleges which failed to renew their registration with the relevant directorate of the Sindh education department till a deadline that expired on March 17.
BIEK chairman Prof Anwar Ahmed Zai said that final notices had been issued last month to the management of all such colleges and higher secondary schools, whose registration had already expired, with a directive to get the registration renewed latest by March 17. The institutions were warned that their students would not be allowed to appear in the intermediate (Part-I and -II) annual examinations, if they failed to act in time.
However, he said, the board with an aim to save the academic year of 4,000 students of these institutions later decided to accept their exam forms if they filed the same through any college affiliated with the BIEK.
He said that the registration of colleges and higher secondary schools with the education department was mandatory for their affiliation with the BIEK. He said there were 27 colleges and higher secondary schools in the city whose registration was either not approved by the education department or due to expire in March. Their managements were warned as early as in December 2009 through notices to get the registration renewed or approved by the competent authority before the intermediate annual exams, or else their institutions would lose affiliation with the BIEK.
Only 11 institutions fulfilled the requirement, while the rest of 16 had failed to get their registration renewed from the competent authority so far, he added.
Prof Zai said that before making a final decision for their permanent disaffiliation with the board, the BIEK would request parents not to admit their children in these institutions for the next academic session, or else it would be their responsibility.
The colleges and higher secondary schools whose affiliation with the BIEK has been suspended are Allama Iqbal Intermediate Girls College, Steel Town, E Complex College of Arts and Sciences, Phase-1, Gulshan-i-Hadeed, Fatmia College (boys campus), Fatmia College (girls campus), TCF Higher Secondary School, Liaquat College of Management Sciences, Pakistan Steel Madr-i-Millat Girls Degree College, Pakistan Steel Shah Latif Boys College, Mariam Higher Secondary School, Dewa Higher Secondary School, Aleemia Institute of Islamic Studies Intermediate Arts College, Ida Rieu Higher Secondary School for Blind and Deaf, College of Emerging Technologies, University College, Memon Commerce College (Evening) and Gulshan College of Information Technology.
