Guard killed, JWP leader, brother injured

KOHAT, Sept 8 Jamhoori Watan Party leader Malik Shamim Afridi and his brother were injured and their guard was killed in firing on their car on the Rawalpindi highway on Tuesday.

Police said Mr Shamim, finance secretary of the JWP, and his brother Sayed Zaman were going home in Babri Banda from the Bilitang bazaar in a car when four men opened fire on them from another car.

The JWP leader and his brother were seriously injured and their guard Zeeshan was killed. The injured were taken to the KDA hospital.

Eyewitnesses said the accused fled towards the tribal area of Turkey Ismailkhel along the Rawalpindi highway after the attack.

Mr Shamim is the father of sitting provincial Minister for Housing Malik Amjid Afridi and Senator Malik Abbas Afridi.

The DIG and DPO visited the site after the incident and a search operation was launched for the assailants in different parts of Kohat and its frontier region with the help of the political administration. The area was cordoned off by police and security forces from Bazidkhel up to Ziarat Sheikh Allahdad.
