3 policemen suspended in Digri
MIRPURKHAS, July 12: Two police officers and a head-constable were suspended on Friday for releasing a man accused of desecrating Holy Quran and accepting bribe to hush up the case.
The DPO of Mirpurkhas, Pir Muhammad Abbasi, had ordered an inquiry into the desecration and release of the detainee following public protest in Digri town. The matter was investigated by the Taluka Police Officer of Samaro, Qamar Ahmed.
Those suspended were SHO, Liaquat Ali Dars; ASI, Muham-mad Ismail and WHC, Ali Khan of Digri police station.
A case has been registered against Pehlaj and Harji. Both the accused were detained during police checking at Kangoro Shakh, taluka Digri, on June 30.
Police said that a copy of the holy book was found on the footboard of their car No. M 5054.
However, both the accused were released on payment of illegal gratification, people of the area complained, which led to public protest and police had to conduct raids to re-arrest them.
Pehlaj has been picked up from Siloor Mori in a raid, police said.
The ensuing inquiry found both the accused guilty and also found the policemen guilty of negligence and misuse of powers.
