3 injured in attack by rival student group

KHAIRPUR, June 1 Three activists of the Jeay Sindh Students Federation-Arisar were injured reportedly in an attack by a group of students belonging to the Sindh People's Students Federation at the Shah Abdul Latif University here on Monday.

JSSF-A vice-president Majid Hussain Shar, Zahid Hussain Shar and Sheeraz Shar suffered injuries. The university administration called police and sent the injured to Civil Hospital Khairpur.

Majid Shar told journalists at the hospital that a pro-government group of students attacked them when they were sitting in the science faculty.

They would neither lodge an FIR nor agree to rapprochement because the university administration and police were backing the attackers, he said.

The president of JSQM-A's Khairpur chapter Fayaz Khamisani condemned the attack and termed it part of political victimisation.

The Sindh government was infuriated at his party's drive against settlement of internally displaced persons from the NWFP in Sindh and this attack was its manifestation, he alleged.

He deplored that the injured activists were in police custody but the attackers were set free.

The university's PRO Sahib Khan Shaikh said that talks between the two student groups had been held to bring about reconciliation.

He, however, declined to disclose details.
