Man arrested near Bari Imam shrine
ISLAMABAD, April 19 A man carrying explosives was arrested by the police personnel deployed at Bari Imam shrine, police said here on Sunday.
The accused was produced in the court of law from where he was handed over to police on physical remand.
Police are investigating as to why he was trying to enter Bari Imam shrine with explosives and are verifying his identity. However it is believed that chances of him being involved in terrorist activity are meagre.
A police team, under the supervision of Assistant Sub-Inspector Mohammad Ghazanfar, has been deployed at the main gate of the shrine for security purposes and to search devotees visiting there.
The police team had spotted a man with a bag entering the premises of the shrine. During the search explosives weighing 500gms along with 15 fuses and 50 crackers were recovered from the bag.
He was taken into custody and shifted to an unknown place for interrogation. Later he was handed over to Secretariat police for further investigation. A case was registered against the accused on the complaint of the ASI.
During interrogation, the accused revealed that he hailed from village Kot Najeebullah in Haripur district and worked as an electrician at Kalis Sharif Darbar in Sargodha.
He told the police that he was heading to his native village to attend the Urs of his grandfather, scheduled for April 19, and decided to pay a visit to Bari Imam and Golra Sharif shrines.
