RAWALPINDI, April 15 A man arrested for his suspected link to the Mumbai terrorist attacks Wednesday refused to record his statement before a judicial magistrate under Section 164 of Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC).

Shahid Jameel Riaz, a resident of Bahawalpur, was produced by the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) in the court of Judicial Magistrate Ahmed Masood Janjua to get recorded his confessional statement for his alleged role in the Mumbai terrorist attacks carried out last November.

The suspect`s counsel, Shahbaz Ahmed Rajpoot advocate, told reporters that Shahid was blindfolded and handcuffed when he was produced in the court for his statement.

He said Shahid would not say anything.

The court staff, however, did not say anything, and only confirmed the accused was produced by the FIA in the court.

Shahid was arrested on March 19 and handed over to the FIA on four-day physical remand on Tuesday by an anti-terrorism court. Meanwhile, ATC No. II Judge Sakhi Mohammad Kahot directed the R.A. Bazaar police SHO to wrap up the investigations and submit the charge sheet till April 20 against nine men accused of being involved in the killing of a serving general of the Army Medical Corps last year.

The court directed the officer after he sought more time to complete the investigations.

The accused are allegedly involved in the January 13, 2008, suicide attack near GPO in Rawalpindi that killed several people, including Surgeon General Mushtaq Baig.
