HYDERABAD, Jan 22 A women`s organisation has opposed the abolition of local governments, calling for amendments to the law to strengthen the system.

Speaking at a news conference at the press club here on Thursday, the leaders of the Sindh Women Councillors Network said that the local government system was working successfully in many countries.

They said abolition of the system was not acceptable and threatened to launch a protest movement throughout the country if their representation was reduced. —Bureau
