Measles threaten Chitral district

CHITRAL, June 7: The occasional cases of measles have put the entire district at risk of contracting the disease, as no vaccines are available with the health department.

The valley of Gohkeer in the Upper Chitral, lower parts of the district, and Chitral city are the most affected areas.

Deputy district officer health Dr Sardar Alam told Dawn that most people have already been vaccinated against measles. He added that more measles vaccines will soon reach Chitral from Peshawar.

A source in the District Headquarters Hospital said that there have been no reports of death due to measles so far. Most vulnerable are children under 10 years.
