ASI shot at, hurt by outlaws

JHANG, April 19: An ASI of the Kandiwal police, Chiniot tehsil, was shot and injured on Friday by three unidentified outlaws near Bahiwal.

Muhammad Nawaz was on his way to Chiniot by a wagon for his onward journey to Lahore where he had to produce a case file in the high court. Near Bahiwal, some seven kilometres from Kandiwal, three armed men riding on a motorcycle intercepted the wagon. As the wagon came to a halt, one of the outlaws shot and injured the ASI sitting beside the driver. He was rushed to the Jhang DHQ Hospital where his condition was stated to be stable. The assailants fled from the scene.

Jhang SSP constituted a team comprising SHOs of Kandiwal, Chenab Nagar and Bara to investigate the motive behind the attack and arrest the culprits.

TWO MURDERED: Two persons were murdered in different incidents on suspicion in villages around Shorkot during the last 36 hours.

The first incident took place at Budhowana village where Muhammad Riaz killed his married sister. Riaz suspected that she had relations with Nasir of the same village.

Allah Ditta of Khorka Kamlana village suspected that landlord Afzal had developed relations with his sister. He fired at Afzal when he was going to his farm by car, but the bullet hit patwari Allah Din who died instantly while Afzal escaped unhurt.

Shorkot police have registered cases.

RELEASED: At least 30 activists, including a union council Nazim, of the defunct Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan were released from the district jail here on Thursday.

In all, 50 leaders and workers of the SSP were sent to jail under 16 MPO after the imposition of a ban on sectarian outfits.
