PESHAWAR: Law, order to be maintained in Muharram: CM

PESHAWAR, Feb 12: NWFP Chief Minister Akram Khan Durrani has said that the government will take all measures to ensure law and order in the province during Muhrrram.

He was talking to a group of Shia leaders that met him at Frontier's House, Peshawar on Saturday.

The delegation was led by advisor to the chief minister NWFP, Ramazam Tauqeer.

"We are strictly monitoring law and order situation and the provincial government will take all necessary measures to ensure law and order in the province ", he said.

He emphasized upon religious scholars from various parties and groups to help the government and law enforcement agencies in this task.

He said that unity among various religious groups was important for progress and prosperity of a society.

Their unity would bring positive effects not only to Pakistan but to the whole Ummah, he added.

The chief minister said that the people of NWFP had given mandate to his party to represent them in legislatures, serve them and protect their lives and properties. The government, he said, was working hard to come up to the expectations of the people.

"I myself convene meetings on law and order situation in the province and issue necessary order", he added.

He said all the citizens had equal rights. He said Islamic brotherhood should be primary motive of Pakistanis.

He said people of all the provinces should rise above nationalistic approach and direct their energies towards prosperity and well being of the motherland.

He said that no hindrance would be tolerated in ensuring law and order in the province. He said his government knew well how to tackle those involved in negative activities.

"Some defeated elements are spreading rumours. They do not want the problems faced by the community resolved. They do not want development process in the province go on. Some of them are even chanting empty slogans", he maintained.

The chief minister said that all segments of the society and religious groups as well as the government recognised importance and effectiveness of Jirga because its help in ensuring law and order situation was of immense importance.

There was no sectarian threat in the country and all religious groups were enjoying complete solidarity, he added.

He said that all religious parties and sects had their representation in MMA and were fighting against sectarianism. Those who wanted to revive sectarianism were not well-wishers of the people or t he society, he added.

The delegation assured the chief minister that all religious groups would fully cooperate with the government in its efforts to maintain law and order.
