HARIPUR: Illegal bus terminuses to face action

HARIPUR, Nov 6: Action would be taken against all illegal terminuses in Haripur and traffic system would be streamlined after Eid-ul-Fitr.

This was stated by tehsil nazim Iftikhar Ahmad Khan at a meeting with citizens held to discuss traffic problem and presence of pushcarts in the main bazaar here on Saturday.

He assured the citizens that pushcarts will be removed from the main bazaar.

Representatives of different trade bodies, shopkeepers, union nazims and traffic officials attended the meeting.

The meeting expressed concern that due to influx of pushcarts in the main bazaar, Rai Aama Road and GPO Road, pedestrians, especially women, faced difficulties in wading through the pushcarts and heavy traffic.

It took notice of illegal terminuses and termed them a source of traffic hazards in the city and of financial loss to the district government.

Tehsil councillor Raja Ehtesham suggested that the registered 'rehri-walas' be allowed to ply trade on humanitarian grounds during Ramzan, but after Eid, a specific space should be allotted to them so that they could earn a living without facing any legal action.

The meeting decided to close the main bazaar for traffic and pushcarts from 25th of Ramzan till Eid day because the entry of vehicles and pushcarts during the last days of people's Eid shopping would further aggravate the situation. Motorists living in the main bazaar area would be issued special passes by the TMA.
