HYDERABAD: 'Teaching of Sindhi in private schools to be ensured'

HYDERABAD, Sept 11: The Sindh education minister has accepted a Sindhi Language Authority's proposal to constitute a committee to ensure implementation of a Sindh Assembly resolution calling for introduction of the Sindhi language subject from class-III in private schools.

This was stated by a spokesman for the authority in a press statement issued here on Saturday.

According to the spokesman, the chairman of the authority, Dr Mohammad Qasim Bughio, recently held an informal meeting with Sindh Education Minister Dr Hamida Khuhro in Karachi and discussed with her issues about promotion of the Sindhi language.

It was agreed in the meeting that vigilance committees would work under the supervision of the education department or the SLA, visit private schools and ensure that the assembly resolution was implemented in letter and spirit.

The minister also appreciated the training scheme for the school and college teachers of Sindhi formulated by the authority, and held out an assurance that the education ministry would provide funds for the programme.

The minister also assured that the recommendations of an SLA seminar for introducing English in primary schools of Sindh would also be implemented.

Ms Khuhro agreed that the education ministry would purchase books published by the authority for distribution in the libraries of the educational institutes.

RESULTS: The Liaquat University of Medical and Health Sciences announced on Saturday the results of MBBS-II bi-annual examinations 2,004 of the LUMHS, Chandka Medical College and People's Medical College.

It also announced the results of practical and viva-voce examinations of Diploma in Anaesthesiology-II held in April.
