DERA GHAZI KHAN, Feb 28: Participants in the 28th meeting of the Dera Ghazi Khan District Council on Saturday expressed grave concern over the deteriorating law and order situation in the district.

Presided over by Naib Nazim Javed Iqbal Qaisrani, the council meeting adopted nine out of the 11 resolutions which were discussed.

Sheikh Usman Farooq said that members and officers of district government should regularly attend the meetings.

He pointed out that several development schemes could not be initiated. He regretted that neither the Nazim nor the district police officer attended the meeting.

The council demanded that the DPO should attend the meeting and explain the reasons of deteriorating law and order situation.

Usman Farooq, Nazar Khan Muridani, Manzoor Khan Qaisrani and Abu Bakar Siddiq demanded immediate transfer of EDO education.

The meeting unanimously supported the demand when Manzoor Qaisrani presented documentary proofs that despite ban on transfers in the education department, the EDO transferred as many as 22 teachers.

Sumaira Khan and Sheikh Usman demanded that Dera Ghazi Khan's tehsil authorities should stop victimization of opposition member. They complained that funds had not been given to the women members of opposition group. They alleged that the Mula Qaid Shah Girls High School's canteen contract, awarded to Ms Naseem Akhtar, was cancelled when she criticized tehsil Nazim.

Sheikh Alaudin regretted that no action had been taken against the contractor who was charging illegal tax at the district council complex.

He informed the meeting that an inquiry against the illegal practice of the contractor was under way and its findings would soon be presented before the house.

Sheikh Usman Farooq regretted that district officer (cooperatives) was not transferred despite strong recommendations by District Nazim Jamal Khan Leghari.

On the demand of the council, Naib Nazim Javed Iqbal Qaisrani sent a message to the newly-posted district coordination officer who came to the meeting.

DCO Shafqatur Rahman Ranjha informed the meeting that during a visit to the Dera Ghazi Khan Boys College he found at least 25 faculty members absent.
