RAWALPINDI: Man sent to jail in assault case

RAWALPINDI, Feb 28: The additional district and sessions judge, Chaudhry Abdul Qayyum, on Saturday rejected the bail application of a person in an assault case and sent the accused to Adiala Jail.

According to the prosecution, Naeem Aftab allegedly assaulted a five-year-old girl in the jurisdiction of Sadiqabad police station.

In another case, the judge summoned the station house officer (SHO) of Sadiqabad police station to appear before the court on March 6.

Tariq Sultan had submitted a complaint to the court, stating that his wife, Shamim Akhtar, married him without taking divorce from her first husband.

Mr Sultan, who also presented the Nikahnama of Ms Shamim's first marriage, contended that the woman had deceived him by pretending that she was unmarried.

The complainant said he repeatedly contacted the SHO to file a case in this regard, but the police officer did not register it.

The special judicial magistrate, Ahmed Masud Janjua, issued the arrest warrants of six former councillors of Pakistan Muslim League (Nawaz) for not abiding by the court directives.

The PML-N former councillors included Babar Awan, Mansoor Baig, Chaudhry Rasib, Shabir Shah, Shahbaz Goshi and Zafar Iqbal. They were not appearing before the court in a case related to the PML-N anti-government demonstration in front of the Muslim League House about three years ago. However, the PML-N activists - Tanveer Akhtar Shaikh and Maqbool Ahmed - nominated in the case were present in the court.

The judge of Anti-Terrorism Court No. 1, Manzoor Ahmed Mirza, acquitted three persons of the charges of opening fire on a police party. Those acquitted were Haji Bahadar, Umar Gul and Tayyab.
