KARACHI: Khokhrapar-Monabao bus service likely

KARACHI, April 21 : The construction and repair of road for start of a bus service between Khokhrapar-Monabao was reviewed at a meeting held under the chairmanship of Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim here on Thursday. Dr Arbab said the opening of this border route would usher in an era of prosperity in the area.

He said that the road would be constructed by the Sindh Government and the federal government would make 50 per cent funding.

The meeting was informed that it is a 35-km long road whose construction and repair would cost Rs344.841 million. The chief minister directed that all formalities be completed and work be started.

He said the repair and expansion of the road from border to Mirpurkhas and up to Hyderabad should also be started while the quality aspect be given due care.

The chief minister directed the works and services department to construct the road from Hyderabad to Mirpurkhas on BOT basis while the work on Tando Allahyar bypass should also be completed.

He called for widening of road from Umerkot to border while a 10 km-long bypass road would be constructed from Hyderabad to Mirpurkhas near Hala Naka under Annual Development Programme.

The chief minister said this road will provide a boost to trade activities between the two countries and the reservations being expressed by nationalist elements have no truth because this project has been supported by the PPP and other parties as well.—APP
