Janisar and Asif shine in drawn tie

Published March 9, 2005

KARACHI, March 8: Unbeaten centuries by Asif Mujtaba and Janisar Khan were the highlights of what was a dull last day of the Patron's Trophy Pool 'A' match between PIA and KPT at the UBL Sports Complex on Tuesday.

After PIA had declared their second innings at 471 for six, KPT finished at 91 for three, after being set a virtually impossible target of 359 in 20 overs, as the match petered out in the dullest of draws.

Asif, the 37-year-old ex-Test-hander, scored 137 - his 47th hundred in 282 first-class matches - with 16 fours and one six. In contrast, Janisar reached only his second century, making exactly 100 (which included 16 boundaries) as the unbroken seventh-wicket stand realized 232 runs in 238 minutes.

Despite taking three points for first innings lead, KPT finished bottom of this pool and face automatic demotion to non-first-class cricket next season.
