FAISALABAD: Protest against agri varsity admn planned - Students' expulsion

FAISALABAD, Jan 2: Several student organizations announced on Sunday that they would stage demonstrations outside educational institutions to protest expulsion of 26 students by the University of Agriculture. The protest will begin on Tuesday (tomorrow).

During a meeting held here, the leaders of the organizations decided that processions would be taken out from all colleges and schools to condemn the agriculture university administration's refusal to readmit those students who had been expelled on the charge of creating lawlessness.

The meeting observed that the UAF administration was playing with the future of the students without any justification. The students have also decided to boycott the classes in case the university sticks to its guns.

The students pledged to take up the matter with the parliamentarians, traders and lawyers so that they persuaded the university authorities to allow the students back in the institution.

Giving details of the protest, the meeting said it would be observed in phases. In the first phase (beginning on Tuesday), the students would stage demonstrations outside the institutions.

They would block traffic on main city roads, stage sit-ins outside the offices of high administrative functionaries and boycott classes in the next phase. It may be recalled here that the UAF had expelled on Nov 25 last 26 students, including Islami Jamiat Tulaba Nazim Akhtar Rasool and Inqalabi Council chairman Atiqur Rehman.
