KARACHI: Value of looted valuables still being ascertained

KARACHI, Dec 21: The exact worth of valuables taken away by a private security guard from a Faysal Bank branch could not be ascertained on Tuesday as bank staff remained busy contacting the customers.

Meanwhile, police have detained several guards of the Secure Private Security Agency and started interrogating them. A police party has also been dispatched to the native town of the missing security guard, Bilal Khan, who is allegedly involved the robbery, in the NWFP, a senior police officer said.

Talking to Dawn, Town Police Officer of North Nazimabad Imran Ahmer said the bank staff were still busy dispatching letters and making telephone calls to the bank customers, requesting them to come to the branch and furnish details of their valuables deposited with the branch.

Till afternoon, less then 50 per cent of the customers had been informed about the break-in. The security guard, Bilal Khan, along with his accomplices broke open 35 lockers of the Faysal Bank branch located near Five Star Chowrangi in North Nazimabad on Sunday night and made off with cash and valuables deposited in them.

When the security guard of the morning shift turned up on Monday morning to assume his duty he found the branch open and night guard missing. Tools used to break open lockers were also found from the branch, police added.
