Call to cancel Russian wheat import tender

LAHORE, Dec 20: The Pakistan Flour Mills Association has demanded cancellation of the tender issued by the Trading Corporation of Pakistan for import of wheat from Russia.

Association chairman Abdul Ali Kakar said in a statement that the Russian wheat was not suitable for the production of quality flour because it was substandard and red-coloured. He said the TCP had floated the tender for the import of Russian wheat despite his meeting with Prime Minister Shaukat Aziz in this regard.

He said the cancellation of the tender was necessary because people would not get quality flour despite spending precious foreign exchange on wheat import. He said it was better to import the commodity from India as it was of much better quality and cheaper.
