SIALKOT: MMA caravan to Lahore stopped by police

SIALKOT, Dec 12: A caravan of 60 buses and wagons, carrying MMA activists to Lahore for its anti-government public meeting, was stopped by a heavy police contingent at China Chowk and Pull Aik Chowk on Sunday. The participants raised anti-government and anti-police slogans.

Police high-ups told newsmen that no MMA activist was arrested. However, the crew of the buses were taken into custody. Meanwhile, a press release issued by the MMA confirmed that no arrest was made.

PROTEST: A large number of people, including women and children, staged an anti-police demonstration in the district courts here for siding with land grabbers.

The protesters raised slogans and alleged that the Sialkot Saddar DSP and SHO were sheltering the influential people who have occupied a big piece of land worth millions of rupees in Buttar village dedicated for a social welfare project. They were holding banners and placards. They met the Sialkot additional SP and apprised him of the situation. The SP assured them of his full cooperation.

GAS PROJECT: Punjab Industries Minister Ajmal Cheema launched a project for the provision of gas to Ballaanwala and other village on Sunday. He told a gathering that the project would be completed at a cost of Rs50 million and residents of Ballaanwala, Daallowali, Kammaanwala, Gulbahar, Palora Kalan, Chak Mandhar, Machhi Khokaran and their surrounding areas would benefit from it.

He said the government was making all out efforts for raising the living standard of the people of rural areas. Sialkot tehsil Nazim Akmal Cheema and SNGPL managing director Rashid Ahmad Lone were also present on the occasion.
