KARACHI, June 18: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim has placed SHO Jamshed Quarters Sohrab Mayo under suspension and ordered an inquiry against him.

He was suspended following a series of assassinations of prominent personalities within the jurisdiction of Jamshed Quarters police station.

PPP leader Munawwar Suhrawardy and religious scholar Mufti Nizamuddin Shamzai were assassinated in the jurisdiction of the same police station. Meanwhile, the chief minister was on a visit to Badin district when he received the news about assassination of PPP leader Munawwar Suhrawardy.

On his return to Karachi, Dr Arbab Rahim held an emergency law and order meeting on Thursday night. At the meeting, he telephoned opposition's parliamentary leader Nisar Ahmed Khuhro and conveyed condolences on Suhrawardy's death on behalf of the provincial government.

Arbab Rahim strongly condemned the incident and told Mr Khuhro that the government and personally himself fully share the grief. He said that the government had directed all the agencies for early arrest of the culprits.

He told the opposition leader that he and his cabinet ministers as well officials wanted to come to him for sharing their grief, however, they were told not to come at that time.

Namaz-i-Tauba: On the appeal made by Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim, "Namaz-i-Tauba" was offered all over Sindh on Friday. In Karachi, Namaz-i-Tauba was offered at the Chief Minister's House, which was attended by Dr Rahim, cabinet ministers, MPAs, government officials, besides a number of people from Thar and other areas.

Hafiz Ferozuddin led the special prayers for establishment of law and order in Sindh, particularly in Karachi, elimination of terrorism, water shortage and for unity among the people.

On the occasion, chief minister urged the people to hold collective prayers, seeking peace and love in Sindh. He appealed to them to maintain the atmosphere of brotherhood and show respect to each other.

THAR: Sindh Chief Minister Dr Arbab Ghulam Rahim said on Friday that the government officials, including doctors, engineers and education experts, hailing from Tharparkar would be posted in the same district to serve the poor of that neglected area.

"The desert district of Sindh has been neglected in the past, but the present government would take concrete steps for its development and prosperity of the poor people," he said, while speaking at an an open meeting held to highlight the problems faced by the people of Thar desert at the Chief Minister's House.

"The government would resolve their problems and provide basic facilities," he added. The chief minister also announced that he would soon approach the prime minister for provision of Sui gas to Mithi, the district headquarter of Tharparkar. The gas supply line would be extended to Mithi from Badin, via Deeplo, and all the villages located near the line would be benefited, he added.

Dr Rahim directed the Health secretary to appoint specialist doctors at the Mithi Civil Hospital. He also directed that the existing x-ray plant at that hospital be made functional and warned of strict action if it was not found in working condition.

MPA Abdul Razak Rahmoo, Abdullah Arbab, Rajweer Singh, Dr Ramesh Kumar, Dr Dost Muhammad Memon, Dr Hameeda Khuhro, Sultan Khuhawar, Begum Farida Baloch, MNA Dr Ghulam Haider Samejo and others were also present at the meeting. -APP/PPI
