LAHORE: New underpasses under repair

LAHORE, March 14: The newly-built underpasses on The Mall and along the FC College are under repair, exposing the substandard work on the two important projects of the city.

Tiles have come off the walls in both the tunnels of The Mall Underpass and are being replaced these days. Similarly, a footpath of this underpass has caved in.

The case of the FC College project which was inaugurated last week is more serious where a deep depression has appeared in the centre on the road along Shahjamal. As labourers are busy filling the gap, a barrier has been placed to warn motorists.

Work on both the projects was carried out in a 'record' time by the same contractor under the supervision of the Communication and Works Department. The same team will now take in hand two more underpasses near the Doctors' Hospital and Jinnah Hospital on the canal on Monday (today).

Proud of The Mall and FCC projects, Chief Minister Pervaiz Elahi will inaugurate the new underpasses which will be completed in three months at a cost of Rs190 million each. The underpasses will be built only on one side of the canal on which the two hospitals are situated.
