TOBA TEK SINGH: Kamalia Bar in crisis after polls
TOBA TEK SINGH, Jan 27: A row has erupted between Kamalia Bar's 'newly-elected' office-bearers and election board members after board chairman declared recently-concluded elections as void and ordered repoll scheduled for Thursday (29th).
The bar elections were held on Jan 15 in which candidates of general secretary obtained equal votes. The election board which initially announced that the winner would be decided by the Punjab Bar Council, ordered repoll against all seats later.
In the meantime, bar's president-elect Malik Siddiq Awan announced that Chaudhry Shaukat Ali had been elected secretary by a margin of one vote but this announcement provoked election board members.
Bar members-elect met on Tuesday and decided to cancel the membership of election board chairman Syed Asghar Abbas Rizvi and members Khalid Nawaz Bhatti and Syed Aftab Hussain and also announced that there would be no repoll.
