Court stay of transfer lands police dept in confusion

MUZAFFARABAD, Feb 21: The AJK police chief Javed Noor has sought the help of AJK chief secretary (also home secretary) to sort out the issue of a transfer in his department following its suspension by the Supreme Court, it was reliably learnt here on Saturday.

The S&GAD had transferred Mr Faheem Ahmed Abbasi, DIG Muzaffarabad range, as director general Kashmir Institute of Public Administration (Kipa) along with other transfers in the police department on February 4. Mr Abbasi however got ad-interim relief from the Supreme Court which suspended the operation of the transfer notification to his extent on February 18.

However, Dr Liaquat Ali, who was posted as in-charge DIG Muzaffarabad range under the same notification and had assumed office on the very evening, had not relinquished the charge after the apex court's order on the grounds that “prima facie it did not affect his transfer.”

While Mr Ali continues to discharge the functions of DIG Muzaffarabad range using its office chamber in the DHQ complex Mr Abbasi has been restricted to his residence in the Police Lines where he had set up a part-time office shortly after his posting in April last year.
