LAHORE, Dec 17: Army retained its title winning the final of the MCB national Inter-departmental baseball championship defeating Wapda by an innings with the final score 11-10 played at the Iqbal Parks Sports Complex on Wednesday.
At the start of the ninth innings, Army were leading 11-9. But as Wapda, batting first in the ninth innings could add just one run, the defending champions did not have to play their ninth innings to win the final.
Army made a brisk start of scoring five runs against Wapda in the first innings. Wapda, however, reduced the lead to 5-3 in the second innings as Army could not add any run to its first innings total.
Both the teams failed to score any in the 3rd, and 4th innings. While Army earned two runs each in the 5th and the 6th innings Wapda could score two in the 6th to go down 9-5. Wapda tried their best to come
from behind and earned four runs in the 7th innings against Army’s two to make it 11-9 But in the ninth innings it could add just one run bit in vain.
For Army, Imtiaz Ahmad, Farooq Khan and Sarfraz scored two runs each. Kamran Iqbal, Zafar Junior, Iftikhar Ahmad , Khawar and Rashid Bolouch added one run each. For Wapda Mohammad Usman, Sajid Hussain, Mohammad Asif added two runs each. Zaheer Khan, Khurram Khan, Imtiaz Butt and Mukkaram scored one each.
