HYDERABAD: IMF loan to hurt economy, says Palijo

HYDERABAD, Nov 17: Awami Tehrik chief Rasool Bux Palijo has said that the government decision to obtain loan from the IMF would further destabilise the country’s economy.

In a statement issued on Sunday, Mr Palijo said that IMF was an imperialist organisation, which only wanted to enslave the third world countries.

He said that the prime minister had announced that the issue of IMF loan would be placed before the parliament but later he reneged on the promise which was clear proof of the fact that the parliament had been shorn of its powers.

He said that if the money of civil and military establishment and the president, which had been stashed away in foreign banks, had been deposited in the national banks there would have been no need to mortgage Pakistan to the IMF.

He condemned proposed privatisation of the Qadirpur gas field and said that the gas field’s sale was part of IMF conditionalities.
