HYDERABAD, Oct 25: Jirga system is an impediment in the development of society and it is the duty of progressive forces to join hands for elimination of this outdated tradition.
This was said by Women Action Forum leaders Irfana Mallah, Mehrunnisa Larik, Nazeer Qureshi and Najma Panhwar while exchanging views with the students of Nazareth Girls College here on Saturday.
They said that the forum had launched a struggle against jirga system and initiated a signature campaign to create an awakening among people against the evil.
They said that the leaders of the forum had so far visited Sindh and Mehran universities and Zubaida College to get signatures of teachers and students against jirga system. They said that students could perform a vital role against the outdated custom which sanctified so-called honour killing.
GIS SYSTEM: Hyderabad District Nazim Kanwar Naveed Jamil has said that after installation of geographical information system (GIS), Hyderabad will be the first city of the country to be equipped with the latest communication system.
He was speaking at a briefing on the installation of GIS system at his secretariat. In his briefing, Arif Usmani of Usmani and Company said that the GIS was the latest communication system which had been introduced only in the developed world.
He said after the system was installed in Hyderabad, the people would be able to get information about the working of all the on-line departments.
