HYDERABAD: Call for reforms in driving licence issuance system
HYDERABAD, Oct 10: Deputy Inspector General of Police, Hyderrabad Zone Sanaullah Abbasi, has taken notice of death and injuries in traffic accidents and suggested reforms in the licence issuance system by driving licence branches of Hyderabad zone.
He was speaking at a meeting of officers of police, motor vehicle, licence branch and motor vehicle inspectors of Hyderabad zone in his office.
He said that Hyderabad zone doesn’t have any sanctioned police force for traffic, therefore regular police force personnel normally perform their duty for traffic regulations.
He, however, said that superior officers have been requested to sanction strength for traffic police in Hyderabad zone who are trained in traffic regulations so that traffic management could be improved.
He also called for improvement in traffic management on the pattern of motorway police. He directed motor vehicle inspectors to take care of the fact that only locals are issued licences and they should also make it sure that licence holders must know driving and clear required test to contain traffic accidents.
He said that motorway police would also offer them assistance in this regard.
The DIG appointed SP city Qamar Raza Jaskani as liaison officer for ensuring issuance of licence to deserving people.
He said that it must be ensured that light transport and heavy transport licence shouldn’t be issued on the basis of ‘sifarish’ or any other consideration. The driving test must be conducted, he said.
